The Birth Anniversary of Florence Nightingale on May 12 is observed as International Nurses Day and year 2020 is going to be a special one.
The role of nurses are imperative to our society. It is because of their tireless efforts in safeguarding patient’s health, International Council of Nurses (ICN) in 1974 declared May 12 as International Nurses Day, on the birth occasion of Florence Nightingale, the initiator of modern nursing.
It is a true fact that health care department is running smoothly because of the immense efforts of the nurses. The importance of Doctors are paramount but we can neither overlook the true dedication of nurses while protecting patients and their needs.

Nurses have to undergo several training programs to optimize their knowledge and skills. Apart from monitoring patient’s conditions they also educate them, give emotional support to them and their family members and provide medicines as per doctor’s advice. They also look after the welfare of healthy people by providing fitness regimen.
The year 2020 will be very special for the nurses. On the 200th birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale year 2020 has been declared as “The Year of the Nurse and Midwife” and the theme for the year will be “Nurses: A voice to Lead- Nursing the world to health”.
The theme has been chosen to address the tremendous pressure nurses face every day. It will also be highlighting the priceless contribution of nurses to patients worldwide. This will be a source of encouragement for those who aspire to enter this profession.
Furthermore, for the first time The WHO State of the World’s nursing report will be published providing a comprehensive photograph of nursing fraternity globally and Nursing Now’s Nightingale Challenge campaign will help to yield a new generation of nurses who will be carrying this profession over the next few decades.
Alongside this, local events will be organized all through the year by World’s Nursing Associations to celebrate this outstanding career and expose this unique profession by setting a goal for many.
